Charles Dickens Reading Series
Journey back to Victorian England in this second session of the three-part series on the novels of Charles Dickens. Known for his ability to combine comedy, sentiment, and scathing social criticism, Dickens spoke to his contemporaries about issues that mattered: education, poverty, and the triumph of the human spirit.
For this session participants will read and discuss Great Expectations with Dr. Susan Kroeg and discover the powerful lesson these classics can still teach us today.
Dr. Susan Kroeg is a Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University where she teaches eighteenth-and nineteenth-century British literature.
Registration for the November 7th session will open at 9:00 am on Friday, October 11th. Registration for the December 12th session will open at 9:00am on Monday, November 11th.
Free copies of Great Expectations will be given away to the first 20 people who register for this session. These books are generously provided by the Friends of the Laurel County Public Library.
If you do not receive a free copy of the book, you can check out a copy from the library or use interlibrary loan to borrow a copy. This is your responsibility. (Interlibrary loans take at least one week or longer to obtain. Please plan accordingly.)
